Che Adams to Leeds United seemed to be dead in the water after Ralph Hasenhuttl’s comments on Thursday, but there’s still life in this transfer rumour yet.
At least that’s according to The Athletic’s Southampton correspondent.
What’s been said then?
Carl Anka was hosting a Q&A session on the website ahead of Southampton’s game against Leicester City on Saturday.
Understandably, there was a barrage of questions about Adams’ future at the club.
One fan asked if Adams departing is a non-starter to which Anka replied:
“It is not. I’d make it a 30% percentage at the moment.”
Of course, Adams leaving doesn’t necessarily mean he’s headed to Leeds as Nottingham Forest have apparently also been interested, but a later comment from the journalist indicates that Elland Road is his most likely destination.
“Interesting one. From what I understand Leeds are frontrunners for the forward *if* he is available, but yesterday Ralph said he’s not expecting any outgoings this month.
“I don’t think Adams will leave until/unless RH is sure he has a replacement. I do not see a replacement. Yet.”
There’s a chance
What a rollercoaster ride this transfer saga has been so far.
Every single day it seems as if it’s off and then back on, and once again we’ve been thrown a curveball as one of Southampton’s most reliable journalists refuses to write off the deal going through despite Ralph Hasenhuttl’s insistence that it won’t happen.
The most frustrating thing for those in charge of transfers at Leeds is that the 5 foot 9 ace would be a brilliant signing. He scored 22 goals last term on his way to being nominated for Championship Player of the Year, and it’s one they’re desperate for after Eddie Nketiah left the club earlier this month.
The Arsenal man may only have started twice for the Whites but with Patrick Bamford the only recognised centre forward left at their disposal, it’s imperative a further attacking outlet arrives.
Whether or not this deal gets done remains to be seen, but as it stands there’s still a chance that we’ll see Adams in Yorkshire before the window closes.
In other news, Leeds have been told they have to pay £7m to land one of their striker targets.
