Manchester United are reportedly set to miss out on Harry Maguire.
What’s the story?
According to The Daily Star, Manchester City have jumped ahead in the race for Maguire.
The England international has been linked with both Manchester clubs after his 2018 World Cup heroics, followed by a solid season, and the report claims the champions are favourites to land him for around £65m.
The report even goes as far as to say a medical is already “pencilled in” and a deal with City could be completed within the next week.

Blessing in disguise
With no disrespect intended towards Maguire, this is the biggest blessing Manchester United football club has received in a long time.
The Red Devils have toiled in the drama of big money flops and disastrous signings for what will feel like an eternity now to some fans, and in Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof they already have two quality, young centre backs.
Now, if there was a clear upgrade on the pair available for £65m it would be a no brainer to pull the trigger, but Maguire only has two great seasons under his belt with Leicester and unlike the aforementioned pair has no European experience.

Then there is the fact that a significant portion of the Old Trafford fans are completely against signing the Foxes star due to a previously reported price, evidenced further by their reaction to The Daily Star’s report, so it feels like just one early mistake would spread nerves like wildfire and ruin his stay in Manchester before it even started.
With some fans hating him before he’s even arrived, limited experience at the top level and a price tag worth more than double that of Lindelof (£31m) and Bailly (£30m), Maguire might just be the biggest flop yet at United, and this time fans should be delighted their rivals have seemingly beat them to it.
