Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Athletic’s Dominic Fifield reported that the club’s attempts to sign Yannick Carrasco have been dealt a number of issues, and as things stand, the deal is ‘unlikely to proceed’.
The south Londoners had explored the possibility of a 12-month loan with an option to buy the Dalian Yifang forward, although Fifield has revealed that a number of issues have proved problematic.
The Athletic reporter said that those issues include the fact that Dalian Yifang are effectively under new ownership, while the Chinese Super League side might want a permanent deal instead this month.
Fifield also adds that the agent who has previously organised contracts for Carrasco is on bail in Monaco, although he is unsure if this specific figure is currently contracted to be the Belgian’s representative.
Roy Hodgson’s side could do with an added goal threat, as they are currently the Premier League’s second-lowest scorers with 22 goals to their name in 24 outings – only Watford have scored fewer.
Let’s see how the Crystal Palace fans on Twitter reacted to the news…
To kick off the reaction, these two supporters took aim at the Eagles’ recruitment team.
@_IamYZ_ jokingly said that the main problem with the Carrasco deal is believed to be the “incompetent recruitment team and board members” at Selhurst Park.
Another fan named ‘M Drew’ sarcastically said that “we all know how good our recruitment is!”
Elsewhere, Joe begged the club to “just get this done” as it would be the Eagles’ “best signing since Cabaye” – a bold statement, to say the least.
Meanwhile, Aaron said “surely” the deal “can’t be that hard” to complete – given Fifield’s aforementioned reasoning, the issues standing in Palace’s way do seem quite difficult to overcome, in fairness.
Lastly, these two fans didn’t take the news well.
Life after football: Do you know what all of these former players did next?
@cpfcbailey sarcastically said it was a “shock” that the south Londoners are struggling to complete this deal.
Also, @aaroncritchard1 perhaps overreacted when saying “delete the club” – there’s still time!
